Study at ESA

Citizens from foreign countries are admitted to the Ecole Spéciale on the same basis as French citizens. Therefore, they must comply with French language requirements :

  • Requested certificate in French : TCF (Test de Connaissance du Français) Level B1

With this intermediate knowledge of French, the foreign candidate can apply to one of the different programs delivered at ESA depending on his academic level :

FOUNDATION PROGRAM

The "Cycle Découverte" Foundation Program at the École Spéciale is a 3 months training course geared towards those who wish to prepare for the undergraduate studies entrance exam at ESA or any other architecture school. This apprenticeship also guides the student to explore his skills and interest for architecture, as a discipline and a profession.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

The "Cycle 1" Undergraduate Program of architectural studies at the École Spéciale is a 3 years bachelor degree course which leads to the ESA Grade 1 diploma, certifying the architecture licence degree.
This 6 semesters training aims to teach the elementary tools and skills of architecture, and allows a first access to jobs such as draughtsman in design offices, architecture practices and local communities.
Being assigned 180 European Credits (ECTS), in accordance with the Bologna agreements, it can also serve as a bridge for a reorientation towards related fields (set design, interior architecture,...).

GRADUATE PROGRAM

The "Cycle 2" Graduate Program of architectural studies at the École Spéciale is a 2 years master degree course which leads to the ESA Grade 2 diploma, certifying the architecture master degree.
Being assigned 120 European credits (ECTS) in accordance with the Bologna agreements, this diploma is recognized by the French Government and is equivalent to the national diploma conferred by the French public architecture schools (ENSA). It allows the graduate to perform a variety of architectural practices, but does not authorize the use of the professional title, which can only be acquired through the "accreditation of a qualified architect to exercise his profession in his own name" (HMONP).

ACCREDITATION

The "Habilitation à la Maîtrise d’Œuvre en Nom Propre" (HMONP), which stands for "accreditation of a qualified architect to exercise his profession in his own name" in English, is a post-qualification diploma open to students holding a ESA Grade 2 diploma or equivalent.
The awarded qualified architect diploma DESA HMONP is equivalent to the national HMONP diploma delivered by the French public architecture schools (ENSA). Recognized by the European Union, it allows the title to be carried in France and in the 27 countries of the EU.
This accreditation is acquired through "work in a professional situation" (MSP) or by "validation of acquired experience" (VAE) for architects who have completed at least 3 years of professional practice in architecture.

  • Tuition fee : 6 000 € (MSP)
  • Tuition fee : 4 000 € (VAE)
